After he received a question from a fellow passenger on a plane asking if he would like to switch seats with his family to be seated next to them, the father asked for another child to take their place.
On TikTok @one_toughmother explained what had happened to leave the mother with her infant, toddler, and child while her husband was on a flight without children.
“I was seated next to a mom who had a baby in her lap and a toddler beside her,!” On-screen text was read out and described the situation. “a lot.”
“I offered to switch seats with the dad, who was a few rows up, so he could be with his family.
“”Great, thank you!” He replies, AND SENDS OVER A SMALL KID WHO WILL SIT WITH MOM.
“He enjoyed a kid-free flight,” This video concludes.
This viral clip, which was posted on YouTube, has garnered 4.6m hits, 543k likes, and ignited a heated debate in the comments.
One hand, people slammed him for not being responsible and helping his wife out.
“One person said” “The absolute rage I am feeling right now.”
“If I were the mom, he would not be my husband anymore after that,” Another person has written.
Third added: “I would have said no that’s not what I meant give me my seat back.”
“If my husband was like that we would be divorced before landing,” Four people commented.
Someone else replied: “This is the perfect ad for birth control.”
Others defended his father’s behavior.
“Wait but, if he actually took the seat, wouldn’t the other kid be left alone?? or did i miss smt [sic].” One person says.
Add another: “What if he were a stay-at-home dad and mom was finally looking after the kids so he could have a break?”
“This is why you should’ve minded your own business,” Someone else has written.
Four people responded. “I think he probably misinterpreted as it you not wanting to sit next to the children.”
The TikToker who created the original video @one_toughmother noted in a subsequent video “how differently it [the video] was received by men and women in the comments.”
The father told her that he wanted to move to the middle row instead of an aisle seat, but she did not know that there was another child sitting beside him when she offered to change seats.
“No, nobody was suggesting that he leave a kid alone with a stranger, the only reasonable option in this situation was for him to say ‘No thank you, I’m actually sitting here with my other child.'”
