High School Musical’s director and cast have teased that they might be open to returning to the series in future.

Director Kenny Ortega told Variety in January 2021 that he couldn’t imagine a full scale film reunion, but said: “I would love nothing more than a reunion where everyone, including Zac Efron, could have dinner together and say ‘Wow wasn’t that something?’ We don’t even need cameras there.”

Ashley Tisdale was previously a Sharpay Evans actress and had given up on the possibility of playing her role again.

Entertainment Tonight 2021 “I just feel like I wouldn’t be able to really do that again and give it justice

“You know what I’m saying? I think at that moment in time, I was very unaware of myself and my surroundings, and I feel like that’s a big part of Sharpay. She is just not really aware, and so as I grew up and became more aware, I think that it’s just something that it wouldn’t be the same.”

Diplomatically, she added: “It’s so good, and it’s like, for me, I would hate to ruin something that is perfect for that moment, and yeah, I don’t think I could go back to it.”

Vanessa Hudgens, the actress who played Gabriella Montez hinted that she might also be open to returning.

E! News: “I could be a teacher, but I refuse to be a teacher! I’m still a teenager at heart.”

Vanessa Hudgens has also indicated that she’d love a return to the franchise.

The film series has been revived to some extent via the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

Two seasons have been aired so far. The original film trilogy’s Kaycee Stroh, and Lucas Grabeel, played characters on the show.
