Will Smith Leads Dodgers to Wild Walk-Off Win Over Cubs 4-3 – Los Angeles

Mookie Betts’ ninth-inning sacrifice fly was just short of a grand slam. Will Smith struck a winning double in the 10th to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Cubs for their eighth straight victory against Chicago.

Los Angeles trailed 3-1 at six. Jake Lamb scored in the seventh. Betts brought in Zach McKinstry by hitting a fly ball against David Robertson to the left-field wall.

Rowan Wick (1-4), in the 10th prior to Smith’s single left drive in Trea Turner, intentionally walked Freddie Freeman.

Evan Phillips (3-3) had three RBIs to win the victory. The NL-leading Dodgers are now 8-1, after an 11-game homestand. They improved to 5-0 this season against the Cubs.

Los Angeles also achieved a home record of 28-13, which is a NL-best.

For Chicago, Nico Hoerner scored with a home run. Ian Happ added two runs in the sixth to make it 3-0. Keegan Thomson gave up two hits and an unearned run in 5 1/3 innings.

Hoerner’s fifth homer was a line drive that he hit in the fifth. The ball went over the wall in leftl, and into the seats. Gavin Lux, Dodgers left fielder, was just able to reach the ball.

Clayton Kershaw will be taking the mound on Saturday night for the Dodgers in the third of the four-game series against the Cubs.

Marcus Stroman is expected start for Chicago.
