Why Neil Patrick Harris Causes Backlash on Friday, the 13th

Neil Patrick Harris’s decision of 10 years ago has been resurfaced. Social media users, including Amy Winehouse fans, are outraged. Winehouse was killed by alcohol abuse in 2011. Winehouse’s struggle with alcoholism, eating disorders and other issues were chronicled in the media and in her music. Many people will remember her true hit, “Rehab,”where she sang about her opposition towards getting treatment. At the tender age 27 it led to her untimely death. Her career and struggles have been documented in numerous documentaries and think-piece analyses. Harris, however, made an insensitive decision. 

Harris and David Burtka, Harris’ husband, received criticism three months after she died. “The Corpse of Amy Winehouse”At their Halloween party buffet Modern FamilyThe party was attended by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, a star, and Justin Mikita his now-husband. Mikita took to Twitter and deleted the following post: “Look who showed up @ActuallyNPH & @GourmetMD’s Halloween party last night. Looking good.”The photo featured a grisly depiction of a rotting corpse and Winehouse’s famous beehive haircut. It also showed her tattoos.

Since then, the picture has been resurfaced. It is neither funny nor appropriate.
