VIRGIN Atlantic was forced to cancel several flights up to February because of continued travel restrictions.
The airline has informed passengers who are interested in flights to Hong Kong via email that all routes from London Heathrow to Hong Kong have been suspended and will resume on February 7.
The email was shared on Social media, said: “As an outcome of Covid-19 as well as the changing global travel restrictions we’re constantly reviewing and revising our flying programme.
“We’ve had to cancel and make schedule changes due to this.
“We’re sorry to let you know that we have taken the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all London Heathrow to Hong Kong passenger services up to and including February 7, 2022, as we work with authorities to overcome current operational challenges on this route.”
Sun Online Travel spoke with a spokesperson for Virgin Atlantic, saying: “We continue our careful evaluation of the conditions under which our routes can be operated, while Covid-related restrictions are dynamically changing, but always putting our customers’ safety and health first.
“After careful review of our London Heathrow – Hong Kong schedule, we have taken the difficult decision to extend the temporary suspension of all passenger services until 8 February 2022, as we work with authorities to overcome current operational challenges on this route.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers and we will be contacting them as soon as possible with their options, including a full refund.
“We hope to reinstate this service as soon as practicable, providing vital connectivity between the UK and Hong Kong for customers and global supply chains.”
Hong Kong earlier this week announced that eight countries were added to their inbound flight ban, effective January 8.
This includes the UK as well as France, Australia and the USA, Canada, India, Pakistan, Pakistan, and the Philippines.
The suspension is effective for at least two (2) weeks but can be extended.
Brits looking to travel abroad are now facing a ban on Hong Kong.
Others have introduced new travel restrictions. For example, Spain and Cyprus require Covid testing from all arriving travelers, even those who are fully vaccinated.
Some prefer to lift restrictions. Germany lifted the UK ban, France said they would relax some restrictions.
The UK will lift travel restrictions regarding testing and isolation periods starting tomorrow. Here’s everything you need to know.
