Tyler Anderson Sharp on Mound, Dodgers Sweep D-backs With 3-1 win – Los Angeles

Tyler Anderson pitched six strong innings. Will Smith also added a single homer. The Los Angeles Dodgers won a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 on Sunday.

Anderson (6-0), continued his great pitching streak, giving the Dodgers’ lineup a boost after Andrew Heaney and Clayton Kershaw were injured. The left-hander has allowed just two earned runs and five hits in his last 21 innings. He also had three wins, all of which were from starts.

Smith moved the Dodgers ahead 1-0 with the 12th pitch, hitting the ball into Chase Field’s swimming pool just behind the right field wall.

The catcher’s lengthy plate appearance began with three called strikes, three balls, then six foul balls. Before the solo shot that was his fifth homer for the season, the catcher made the final call.

The Dodgers — who won despite just four hits — added two more runs in the third on Freddie Freeman’s RBI single and Trea Turner’s RBI groundout. Anderson and his bullpen had more than enough to deal with the Arizona lineup.

Craig Kimbrel gave up the ninth run, but still made his 10th save.

The D-backs lost four of their four games, scoring eight runs. Zach Davies (2-3) was the loser, giving up three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

David Peralta drove in D-backs’ lone inning with a pinch hit triple in the ninth.

Turner extended his hitting streak to 21 games, with one run in the sixth. This is the longest currently active hitting streak in Major League Baseball.

Diamondbacks: Daulton Varsho (OF/C) pinch hit in the ninth, his first appearance since Friday. He was struck in the shoulder by a pitch on Friday, and was removed from Saturday’s lineup due to soreness.

The Dodgers are back in Los Angeles to open a three-game series on Monday against the Pirates. Los Angeles will be led by Walker Buehler, RHP (6-1, 2.91 ERA). Pittsburgh will begin RHP Zach Thompson (2-5, 5.20).

The Diamondbacks open a three game series at home against the Braves Monday. Arizona will start RHP Zac gallen (3-0.22 ERA) and Atlanta will counter with RHP Spencer Strider (1-1.22 ERA).
