Tom Cruise Were Refused to Take Part in The Iconic Johnny Depp Movie

Tim Burton’s “Edward Scissorhands”Johnny Depp was Johnny’s introduction to imagining such unique characters. Peg (Dianne WIest), a housewife, visits a abandoned mansion at the town’s edge to try to sell Avon. She discovers Edward, a timid, scared individual with scissors for hands. Peg brings Vincent Price (man-made invention) home where he adjusts to suburban living and falls in love.

It is hard to imagine Depp playing the role of Edward, the sweet and spooky character. However, Tom Cruise Jr., Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Hanks expressed interest in the role when casting began (via Dazed). Cruise unfortunately pulled himself out of consideration after asking too many questions about Edward.

Caroline Thompson, screenwriter, said: “[Cruise] wanted to know how Edward went to the bathroom. He was asking the kind of questions about the character that can’t be asked for this character! Part of the delicacy of the story was not answering questions like, ‘How does he go to the bathroom?’ ‘How did he live without eating all those years?'”

Thompson claims that Cruise declined to join the festivities. “Edward Scissorhands”He was not allowed to give details about Edward’s questions to Thompson. While this apparently wasn’t something that Thompson and the crew were willing to share, it paved the way for Depp to win the part — and “Edward Scissorhands”Without him, we wouldn’t have the same.
