As prices rise, many of us feel the pinch of inflation at our grocery stores. Our I-Team has some tips to help you save money at the supermarket.
Do you plan your meals before you go grocery shopping? Andrea Woroch, a money-saving expert, says it’s a smart idea to plan your meals before you go grocery shopping. According to Woroch, a family of four will throw away $1600 worth fresh produce each year in the trash because it goes bad. Woroch says this is just throwing away money. She says that planning your meals can help you save money.
“Begin by looking at your calendar,” said Woroch. “What days are you going to be home? Do you have a work lunch, do you have a pizza party for your kid’s soccer game? Make sure you plan for that and don’t overbuy.”Woroch suggests that you select recipes with similar ingredients to save money on your grocery shopping.
“Let’s say you buy a bag of potatoes, how often do you only use a few of those, and then the rest go to waste?” said Woroch.
It’s tempting to buy bulk because it’s less expensive. Woroch warns that if you don’t eat all of the food you purchase, it can be a waste of money.
“So really think about the family, the family size, what everybody eats,” said Woroch. “Do you all eat the same foods? Try to limit what you buy in bulk.”Woroch also has a trick up her sleeves: Woroch suggests buying fresh meat and other food close to the expiration date. She claims that markets will often lower the price.
“They may mark it down by 50%, maybe up to 70% off,” said Woroch.
Before you go to the store, make sure you download the Flipp app. It will tell you which deals are available at each grocery shop.
For some people, shopping in a store can lead to overspending. Woroch recommends shopping online if you are one of these people.
“When you shop online, you can stick to that grocery list and there aren’t any tempting food displays,”She said.

Finally, learn as much as you can about the credit cards that you use for shopping. Woroch states that some credit cards provide 6% cash back for groceries. Sites like cardrates.com can help you find the best credit cards.
