TikTok tip leads man to conviction for murdering his girlfriend

A man was arrested in 2012 on suspicion of murdering his girlfriend. He has been found guilty.

Victor Hugo Sosa was taken into custody in Rosarito, Mexico in July 2021 in connection to the stabbing death of his 19-year-old girlfriend, Daisy Delao on Feb. 23, 2021.

Her body was found in her apartment complex at the 1400 block Long Beach Boulevard in Compton.

Sosa was immediately identified by police as a suspect in her murder, but he had already fled Mexico to hide his identity until he was captured several months later.

Authorities were able to locate and arrest Sosa thanks to a viral TikTok hashtag. Delao’s friends and family shared her story and photos of Sosa on the video app with the hashtag #JusticeForDaisy.

As the videos and hashtag gained steam online, a tipster who saw the video gave Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies critical information about Sosa’s whereabouts in Mexico.

Sosa, who was first-degree murdered, was arrested and taken to L.A.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Sosa had been convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Delao and also found true the special allegation that he used a knife to kill her.

Officials said he will be back in court at a later time to receive his sentence for the crime.
