The First Official Joint Portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton Unveiled

Prince William and Kate Middleton viewed their first official joint portrait together. The unveiling of the painting was part of a June 23rd visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Cambridgeshire (a county in the City of Cambridge). 

William and Kate attended the Fitzwilliam Musem, where they saw the painting’s debut. The piece, which Jamie Coreth was a British portrait artist, was commissioned by the Cambridgeshire Royal Portrait Fund to be painted in 2021 as a gift for the county. PEOPLE reported.

“It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture,”Coreth told PEOPLE. “I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.”

“As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives. The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it,”He added. At their wedding in April 2011, Queen Elizabeth bestowed the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge upon the couple.

Kate is dressed in an emerald metallic dress from The Vampire’s Widow that she wore in Dublin during their March 2020 visit. William is wearing a dark suit and a blue tie.

The royal couple will have a meeting with the artist after viewing the piece. The royal couple will also meet Lady Sibyl Marshall who was the first to suggest the idea of creating the portrait.
