Snowboard Star White Recovering From COVID as Beijing Looms – Los Angeles

Shaun White, a snowboarding star, has another hurdle to overcome as he seeks a fourth Olympic gold medal in the halfpipe. COVID-19

White spoke at Olympics.com on Thursday that he tested positive last month after competing in an event in Colorado. The 35 year-old was symptomatic and has been cleared to compete at Mammoth Mountain’s qualifying event, which is the last qualifier for the U.S Olympic Team.

“I’m just thankful that like I started testing negative before this competition, so I’m allowed to compete because that would have been a real frustrating position to be in to where, you know, it’s the last qualifier and I can’t ride,”He stated.

White claimed that he was born with asthma and has a heart condition. White described his COVID-19 experience as a “strange” one. “lingering cold.”

White, who has been away for three years, is back in snowboarding and hopes to be part of the four-man Olympic team. At least one of the spots will be awarded through a coach’s selection. White, who is coming off a seventh place finish last month, has the experience and the resume that will help him to be selected for the squad.
