Sherman Oaks man who was trimming trees died Saturday afternoon when he was discovered upside down at 50 feet above ground.
Los Angeles Fire Department responded around 12:10 pm to the 3300 block North Coldwater Canyon Avenue, Sherman Oaks. They received reports of a unconscious tree trimmer hanging upside down in the air.
Search and rescue personnel and firefighters arrived on the scene to remove the man using a truck-mounted ladder, a rope and harness system.
After they had safely brought the man to the ground, it was discovered that the man was actually dead. “beyond medical help”He was declared dead on arrival.
His cause of death is under investigation, LAFD said, and it’s unclear how long the man was suspended upside down.
There were live electric wires near the tree where he was working, but it’s not known at this time if electrocution or electric shock played a role in his death.
It’s unclear what company the tree-trimmer was working for or what specific work he was conducting at the site prior to his death, LAFD said.
Authorities are investigating the man’s death and Cal/OSHA will investigate the apparent workplace accident.
39 firefighters were involved in the response to the incident, which included urban search and rescue teams.
