Police said that a Los Angeles Police Department officer shot a knife-wielding man on Thursday.
Officers were responding at 5 p.m. to a report about an assault with deadly weapons near Pico and Sawtelle boulevards. A LAPD detective Meghan Aguilar said that an officer arrived on the scene to see a man who matched the description of the suspect.
Aguilar claimed that when the officer got out his car, the knife-wielding male charged him and opened fire on him.
He was only described as being in his 20s or 30s and was in critical condition at the hospital where he was receiving surgery. The LAPD reported that he died later at the hospital. Twitter.
Aguilar reported that the knife was recovered on the spot.
According to police, the officer who fell suffered a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital.
The investigation is ongoing and there are no additional details.
