Santa Barbara County: Santa Monica man is killed after falling off a cliff

Santa Monica man aged 25 died after falling from a Santa Barbara County cliff.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Daniel Bertucelli it took place at 11:40 pm on the 6600 block Del Playa Drive, Isla Vista.

County Fire crews responded to the call and located the man at the base of the cliff. The man was declared dead on the spot after they rendered first aid.

Bertucelli explained that his body was taken back to street level, where it was then removed from the scene.

On Monday, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office identified the man as 25-year-old Chasen Alibrando of Santa Monica.

Alibrando’s death appeared to be accidental, according to Raquel Zick, the Sheriff’s Office’s public information officer.

Isla Vista is a small, beachside community that borders UC Santa Barbara. Many university students live in this area. Many homes on Del Playa Drive have views of the ocean from high cliffs.
