Reports from Ontario Mills Mall of an active shooter ‘false,’Chief of police says

According to Chief Mike Lorenz from the Ontario Police Department: “Despite reports that there was an active shooter at Ontario Mills Mall Saturday evening, the mall remains safe.”

Just before 7:30 PM, the Ontario Fire Department tweeted that there were no confirmed fires “reports of gun shots in the mall,”Adding that multiple people were “reporting they are sheltering in place. No report of any injuries as of yet.”

Less than 15 minutes after the Fire Department’s tweet, Lorenz spoke on TwitterThe reports were “false.”

“The mall is safe,”He concluded.

The Police Department “has cleared the mall. No evidence of a shooter was found. Please continue to avoid the area,”The Fire Department added.

Police determined that the reports were valid at 8:15 pm. “caused by unruly juveniles with no respect for peaceful shoppers,” Lorenz said.

“No shots were fired and no weapons were seen,”He concluded.
