It’s been a curious spell for Arsenal in recent weeks.

Ahead of the international break, the team were on an excellent run and there was a hope that they could pick up some statement wins away at Liverpool and Manchester United.

Ultimately, the Gunners have come up short in both of those matches, thrashed at Anfield and painfully defeated at Old Trafford.

Those results offer an indication into how far this fantastic but flawed group of young players has to go to be regular challengers at the summit of the table once again.

Thursday’s loss to United has prompted some questions from plenty close to the football club.

Here is a look at your latest Arsenal headlines.

Was Arteta right to bring off Aubameyang on Thursday? Let us know in the comments!

Henry critical of Aubameyang decision

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry has questioned Mikel Arteta’s decision to bring off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang against United.

After Arsenal led early on, the Red Devils eventually battled back into the contest and got their noses ahead thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

Aubameyang was quiet on the night, so Arteta opted to bring on both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in an attempt to turn the tide. Speaking on the Amazon Prime broadcast, Henry said he thought that was a mistake.

“Aubameyang is your captain,” said the Frenchman. “He is your goal scorer. You put him as your captain. 15 minutes to go, you’re losing 3-2 and you take him off. 3-2 away from home, you need a goal and you take your captain, your symbol, off the field. You know he can score you goals so something is not right there.”

Calvert-Lewin an Arsenal target

With Lacazette seemingly set to leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, Arsenal are said to be ready to pursue Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Lacazette’s contract in north London is set to expire in the summer and the player has confirmed he is considering his options away from the Emirates Stadium.

The Toffees star has been absent with a thigh problem since the third week of the Premier League season, having bagged three goals in as many matches to start the new campaign.

In the previous two seasons, Calvert-Lewin has established himself as a regular in the England squad, while his physicality and goalscoring instinct would give the Gunners a different edge at the point of the attack.

Silvestre makes Arteta and Wenger comparison

Mikael Silvestre represented both Arsenal and United, and ahead of the showdown between the two teams he praised the work being done by Arteta at the Emirates Stadium.

The team appear to be genuine challengers for European positions this season, having moved up the table following a dreadful start to the campaign.

Silvestre thinks Arteta has the team moving in the right direction and said Arteta is following a similar blueprint to Arsene Wenger in his integration of young players.

“Bringing through youngsters is something Arsenal is known for and that’s been the way for some time,” he said.

“Their academy is successful and it makes sense to give the best players a chance, to help get the club through a difficult period. It’s also good for the identity of the club and for the fans. When they play for England it’s even better.”
