Phillip Danault Scores Late, Kings Beat Oilers 5-4 in Series Opener – Los Angeles

Phillip Danault scored at 14.46 of the third quarter, leading the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. This was Game 1 of the playoff series.

Alex Iafallo and Trevor Moore each scored goals and assists for the Kings. Brandon Lemieux also scored.

Connor McDavid (Edmonton) and Kailier Yamamoto (San Francisco) each scored a goal and assisted. Leon Draisaitl completed the scoring with a power play goal.

Jonathan Quick, Kings goalie, made 35 saves. Edmonton’s Mike Smith stopped 31 out of 35 shots.

Game 2 will be played in Edmonton on Wednesday. Los Angeles will host Game 3 on Friday.

NOTES: Defenseman Darnell Nurse returned to the Oilers’ lineup after missing four games with a knee injury. … Viktor Arvidsson left practice early Saturday to play for the Kings. In 66 games, the winger scored 49 points (21 goals, 29 assists). … Monday marked the first playoff game between the Oilers and Kings since 1992, when Edmonton bested Los Angeles in a six-game series in the division semifinals.
