Pacoima firefighters battle large commercial building fires

Los Angeles firefighters responded quickly to a large fire that was raging in Pacoima’s commercial building Tuesday night.

The fire broke out at a commercial building at 13281 W. Van Nuys Blvd., and was reported to authorities at 9:10 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to the scene to discover large flames rising from the structure.

The fire spread to at least two commercial units and destroyed a portion of one’s roof, officials said.

Initial firefighters entered the building from the inside to fight the flames, but they had to leave the building quickly as the fire grew.

The crews kept putting water on the fire from below and atop nearby buildings, until firefighters could resume their offensive inside the building.

LAFD stated that early reports suggested there might have been someone trapped in the building when the fire broke out. However, the person was found safe at the scene.

To prevent fires jumping to other structures, firefighters remained on roofs of buildings while additional firefighters worked to minimize smoke and water damage to nearby businesses.

At 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, there had been no reports of injuries.

Because of the emergency vehicles and equipment found in the vicinity, drivers were advised not to drive on Van Nuys Boulevard.
