NFL Announces Christmas Day Tripleheader in 2022 Season

On Thursday night, the 2022 NFL schedule went live. The league was one of the highlights. Christmas Day will be busy. Three NFL games will be played on December 25, making this the first ever tripleheader in NFL history. With a 1:15 p.m. start, the Green Bay Packers take on the Miami Dolphins. ET kickoff time for Fox. With a 4:30 p.m. kickoff, the second game will be between the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. ET kickoff on CBS, Nickelodeon & Paramount+. With an 8:20 pm start, the night game will see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking on the Arizona Cardinals. ET kickoff on NBC. 

Four Super Bowl-winning signal callers will play on Christmas Day, so the theme of the games will be quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to a Super Bowl title in 2010, while Russell Wilson won his Super Bowl with the Packers in 2013. Matthew Stafford led the Rams’ to a Super Bowl title in February. Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and one with Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

The schedule had not been released yet, but it was revealed that the Broncos would be facing off against the Rams on Dec. 25, just before the schedule was published. Then, Mike North, vice president of NFL broadcasting, appeared on the program. Sal Sports and Suff Podcast, he mentioned that the league had three games planned for the holiday. “We will play on Saturday night (Christmas Eve) on NFL Network and then when we get to Sunday, Christmas Day, we’ll have a tripleheader,”North stated. “We’ll play one game on CBS afternoon, one game on Fox afternoon and our regular Sunday night game on NBC.”  

The NFL will be playing three Christmas games because it falls on Sunday. The week will feature one game on Thursday (Jacksonville Jaguars at New York Jets), 11 on Christmas Eve, three games on Christmas Day, and one Monday (Los Angeles Chargers at Indianapolis Colts). Its history has been quite interesting. On Christmas Day, the NFL played 24 games.This includes the playoffs.
