New York TV Station takes a shot and legendary QB after announcing retirement

After Tom Brady’s retirement announcement, a New York television station had some fun with him. NBC New York posted a story about Brady’s retirement on Twitter. The tweet stated that Brady had lost two Super Bowls against the New York Giants, rather than saying he won seven.

Brady participated in 10 Super Bowls during his 22 seasons. In his 22-year career, he made nine Super Bowl appearances as a New England Patriots player. He won six championships during that time. Brady’s first loss in a Super Bowl came against the New York Giants in 2007, when the Patriots were undefeated in regular season play. The Patriots lost again to the Giants in the 2011 season. In both games, Eli Manning, the Giants’ quarterback, was named Super Bowl MVP.

“Had we won that game — I don’t know, I’m not a big hypothetical guy — but maybe the desire is a little bit different, if you’re looking at silver lining,”Brady stated these words in his docuseries Man in the ArenaWhen talking about the Super Bowl defeat in 2007, per NESN. “Maybe the desire to reach that point, maybe I would have been fulfilled — not to stop playing at that time, but I don’t know. Maybe I’d play another seven or eight years, and maybe I’m fulfilled. Maybe not.”

Brady said that the 2007 team would always be remembered, despite not winning. “I still think that it was the best team I ever played on, even though we didn’t win the Super Bowl,”Brady said. “It wasn’t the most accomplished team, but it was probably the best team. It was the best team. It was probably the best team in NFL history. … In my mind, the greatest football team that ever played.”

Brady suffered his third Super Bowl defeat in 2017 when the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles. As disappointed as Brady may be with his three Super Bowl losses, he shouldn’t be too upset considering that he has won more Super Bowls in modern times than any other franchise. Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 after leaving the Patriots. In his first season with the Bucs, Brady led the team to their first Super Bowl title in 18 years.
