Mother-of-2 Quits Her Job to Car for 88-Year Old Unfamiliar Widower, So He Won’t Die Alone

Part-time Uber driver, a woman began to see the benefits of this job. It was a wonderful friendship that she formed with an Uber driver passenger.

It might seem like the world is filled with bad news, but there are still angels walking among us, and they don’t always have wings or halos—sometimes, they drive a gray Toyota.  

One woman was an angel for an Ohioan older man. The beginning of a special friendship. They met through chance, and their bond was an example of selfless love and kindness.

THE UNLIKELY PAIR CONNECTED WITH THE START

Jenni Tekletsion worked remotely while pursuing a doctoral in business administration. Her path was crossed with Paul Webb, an older man. They met during one of Tekletsion’s Uber driving shifts in 2020.

Webb needed his phone repaired at a Verizon Store in Columbus. They were able to establish a connection immediately during the trip. Tekletsion Noted: “From the start, we really connected.”

HE COULDN’T CARE MORE FOR HIMSELF

Webb had a stroke in 2017 and developed dementia a few years prior. He lived alone. and the health struggles prevented him from sufficiently caring for himself. 

Tekletsion found Webb a pleasant person to talk to and was able to empathize with Webb because of his circumstances. She :

“I could tell how lonely he was. I had a feeling that he needed help.”

After a short conversation during their first Uber ride, Tekletsion informed Webb that he would contact her any time he needs a ride. She gave her number to the widower. He believed in her.

THEY HAD A BUSY DAILY ROUTE

Webb took Tekletsion up on the offer and reached her the next day. She was there as promisedHe saw her grey Toyota RAV4 and pulled into his driveway.

Tekletsion was a close friend of her new friend, and she was happy to lend her her support. Webb shared his admiration for his friend and how they got along well.

Tekletsion was always busy running grocery errands and making appointments with the barber. Webb also had to make trips to the doctor. Their routine continued for more than a year, and they managed to fit in a meal together every day.

HIS KIDS COULD NOT SUPPORT HIM FULL-TIME

Tekletsion loved driving her friend around and it was free. She Share: “We talk about anything and everything, and we usually agree on everything.”

Their friendship grew with every passing day, and The older man was happy to have someone to count on.His children couldn’t provide full-time support.

Webb’s son, Keith, noted that his father was never open to receiving their help when they offered. Tekletsion was there to help him when his health rapidly declined in 2021.

SHE HAD to WIN THE FAMILY’S TRUST

Webb’s family was skeptical about Tekletsion as she was a stranger. But they soon saw her genuine desire for help and not ulterior motives.

“The hardest part was to build trust with his children. I explained to them who I am … and that I don’t need anything from Paul, but I want to take care of him and help him in his daily life.”

Keith was amazed by Tekletsion’s willingness to help him later. calledher “the real deal.”Webb became weaker over time and required 24-hour care. His kids began to consider placing Webb in assisted-living facilities.

SHE MADE A RADICAL DECISION FOR HER FRIEND 

Webb’s kids were concerned about Webb’s safety. Tekletsion stepped forward to assist them in a significant way. She : “Please don’t take him to assisted living. I will take care of him.”

Webb was Tekletsion’s first commitment. She quit her job to make it part of her commitment. They were both shocked, but thankful. Keith Noted: “There are people in this world that really care.”

He said that even in the most difficult situations, her kindness was enough to bring hope and comfort. Tekletsion demonstrated her selflessness through her radical actions.

SHE MADE MANY SACRIFICES FOR HIM TO HELP.

Despite the challenges the decision would present in Tekletsion’s life, she was eager to be there for Webb as a friend and caregiver.

The mother-of-2 was kind and generously paid a 50% pay cut Webb was the first person she thought of when she gave up her time with her family. Her husband held three jobs to support their families, while Tekletsion offered full-time service to Webb.

SHE FELTS DUTY-BOUND FOR SUPPORT AND CARE.

Tekletsion was driven by a desire for good works and to spread the gospel when she decided to become an Uber driver. She sent any extra money to an orphanage in her home country of Ethiopia.

Webb was also a personal matter that she felt obligated to assist her. She couldn’t help her father.He was in serious condition. He lived in Ethiopia. His wife wanted to be there, but the circumstances didn’t allow it.

SHE LOSED HER FATHER 

Tekletsion’s father tragically passed away in 2003, but she still had a longing to take care of him or another father figure in her life. She didn’t think the longing would be fulfilled—until she met Webb.  

She : “I always missed my dad, and I was not there for his last days to take care of him.”Webb’s bond allowed her to care for the man she loved. “like a dad”To her.

SHE WAS LIKE A DAUGHTER TO HER

Webb was a strong supporter of Tekletsion and was deeply grateful for her presence in the Webb’s life. He : “I don’t even want to think about losing her friendship. She is like a daughter to me.

Tekletsion was straightforward when asked why she quit her job and devoted her time to Webb.

She smiles and laughs. :

“I love my dad and I didn’t do this for my dad so that’s what motivated me to quit my job.”

“HE DOESN’T DESERVE TO BE ALONE”

Webb was known to Tekletsion. DyingHe didn’t have many years left. She didn’t want him to live alone in his final days and they made the most of each other’s time together. 

You can watch television, or read scriptures. Tekletsion wanted to fill her friend’s life with joy—and she undoubtedly succeeded in her mission.

She :

“A lot of people with a lot of wisdom are dying at home alone, so the rewarding part is changing his life and changing his last days. He’s 88. He doesn’t deserve to be alone.”

We are inspired every day by Tekletsion’s selfless devotion. Webb was able to enjoy his final season at home with his friend and she put her needs before her own.
