Mookie Betts’ Leadoff Homer Helps Dodgers Defeat D-backs 3-2 – Los Angeles

Mookie Betts led the game with a leadoff hit, Justin Turner added four hits, and Saturday’s Los Angeles Dodgers victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks was 3-2.

Betts scored his 32nd career leadoff homerun, hitting a fastball from Merrill Kelly into the right-field fence. This was his sixth long ball in the past eight games. The 29-year old has been a catalyst for the Dodgers, whose record is 27-5 when Betts scores a run.

Turner had two doubles and one single, and contributed four of the 10 team hits. Daniel Hudson threw a scoreless ninth for his third save, working around Ketel Marte’s leadoff double.

Betts’ homer was not enough to stop the D-backs from taking a 2-1 lead. They did so thanks to two run-scoring triples first by Jake McCarthy, then by Geraldo Perdomo. Both were line drives into Chase Field’s right-center field gap.

Despite making numerous baserunning errors, the Dodgers won. Trea Turner was caught stealing, Edwin Rios was picked off first base and Gavin Lux was thrown to third base after trying to tag from second base using a fly out.

Tony Gonsolin (5-1) had another great start for the Dodgers. In six innings, he gave up two earned runs. In his nine starts this season, the right-hander has not allowed more than two earned runs and has a 1.80 ERA in 45 innings.

L.A. won three consecutively and has won 12 of its previous 14.

The Dodgers attempt to sweep the four-game series on Sunday.

Kelly (3-3) allowed three runs in five innings. The Arizona right-hander, after a strong start to the season has now given up 17 earned runs in his 17th innings.

TREA AT 20

Trea Turner’s current streak of hitting reached 20 games when he scored an RBI single in his fifth game.
