LASD hosts gun buyback event

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hosted a gun buyback event Saturday in Lynwood.

Community members were encouraged to surrender any functional firearms in exchange for gift certificates, without asking questions.

Gift cards were valued as follows: $50 for non-functioning weapons, $150 for functional pistols, shotguns, rifles, 200 for ghost guns, $300 for assault-style rifles, and $50 for non-functioning guns.

The buyback took place at the LA Metro Park and Ride, 11508 Long Beach Blvd.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva and 4th District Supervisor Janice Hahn were on hand to distribute the gift cards for local businesses and Amazon.com.

Villanueva explained that the event was intended to help with “end violence one step at a time.”
