LA Beach Patrols Planned for Summer, Sheriff Says – Los Angeles

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced that Thursday, deputies will patrol beaches between Playa del Rey and Malibu throughout the summer.

According to a department statement the LASD Beach Patrol Mission will operate from Saturday through Labor Day, Sept. 5. The units will assist other agencies in this area with high-visibility surveillance.

Members of the LASD Sheriff’s Response Team, and the Mounted Enforcement Detail will be part of the patrols. As part of the deployment, members from the Department’s Homeless Outreach (and Mental Evaluation) teams will be available throughout the summer.

“Summer is upon us and the last couple of years have been challenging for everyone,” said Sheriff Alex Villanueva. “I wanted to remind the community that while we do our best, we are stretching our resources so that everyone feels safe no matter where they are. This includes the beaches of Los Angeles County. So that everyone has a wonderful time at the beach, the LASD Beach Patrol Mission is visible this summer.
