Knotts Berry Farm announces Chaperone Policy – Los Angeles

Knott’s Berry Farm announced Wednesday, that it is now implementing a “chaperone policy”All guests under 17 years old must be accompanied by a chaperone 21 years or older during their visit to the park.

This policy applies to Saturdays and Fridays. It was created in response to a fight among teens that caused the park to close at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16.

Teens found alone in the park on Saturdays or Fridays should be accompanied “will be subject to ejection”The policy will be in effect on Friday, July 22.

This policy was initiated after violence broke out among teens at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Although police initially responded to the scene because they heard shots being fired, investigators concluded that no gunfire was occurring.

The disturbance was attributed to the park “unruly behavior and altercations involving a number of teenagers.”

A video circulated via social media showed a brawl of teens that left many park visitors running for their lives. Two people were taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.

The park had to close three hour earlier due to the disturbance.

Knotts’s posted the chaperone policy to its website.

Knott’s stated the following in a statement to NBC4: “For decades, Knott’s Berry Farm has been a place where families and friends come together to enjoy our one-of-a-kind park. Millions of guests have counted on us for their daily dose of wholesome family fun, and we’re committed to keeping that promise going forward.”

Knott’s also has a section titled “Prohibited” that highlights inappropriate behavior or acts in the park. 

  • The carrying of firearms is prohibited
  • Photos and videos that are not requested 
  • Disruptive behaviour that hinders guests’ enjoyment 
  • Any form of fighting or physical aggression, verbal and otherwise, is prohibited
  • Safety concern: Behavior or acts that park management considers unacceptable 
  • Sexual misconduct, Harassing/threatening behavior 
  • Offensive language 
  • Clothing with offensive words and obscene images 
  • Substance impairment or intoxication
  • Indoor smoking/vaping prohibited

The chaperone policy requires that all teenagers aged 17 and under must be accompanied on Fridays and Saturdays by a chaperone who has a valid ID verifying their age.

While one chaperone is allowed to accompany three teens at a time, the chaperone must remain with them. “remain with their party at all times during their visit to the park and be available by phone throughout their stay.”

This policy will go into effect “until further notice.”
