Jamie Carragher believes Eddie Nketiah will not end up Arsenal’s first-choice goal striker. He should leave and find new pastures.
He scored twice in the 2-1 win over Leeds, continuing his impressive run. They are now within four points. Nketiah scored four goals in his last four games as he enjoys a rare stint in the team before a crucial summer decision. After the season is over, his contract expires and he can leave the Emirates.
People have been questioning whether either party is open to an extension beyond this season, as Arsenal’s forward options are set to diminish. Nketiah has shown his talent, but Carragher insists that north Londoners won’t put their hopes on him.
Sky Sports interviewed him: “Yes ( Arsenal should try to keep him) but I don’t think he’ll ever end up first-choice striker, so I think it would be better for him to move on.”Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was ejected by the Gunners in January, while Alexandre Lacazette is set to follow him this summer.
Nketiah is often behind the pair and remains coy when questioned about his next move. On Sunday, he stated: “It’s amazing, it’s always nice to score, but I think it’s a big three points, like I said before the game. We’ve been working hard and we want to do it for the fans. It’s amazing to be able to get the three points and it moves us closer to our objective.
“Any player wants to be playing and have the opportunities. I’ve worked hard throughout the season to make sure I was ready when I got my chance. Credit to my team-mates for helping me when I play and do what I want. I’m just happy to be in the team and helping the team.”

Mikel Arteta had long expressed his desire to keep Nketiah in the Emirates. He stated this after his Leeds performance. “Eddie is doing what he’s done all season, he’s been very consistent, with his performances and how little he is giving things away! Let him be, let him enjoy the moment because he completely deserves it and things will happen naturally.”
He did however confess recently that he received offers prior to this summer. He shared the following: The Beautiful Game Podcast : “There have been offers of a new contract but at the moment my aim is to play football and play regularly. That’s my ambition and that’s what I hope to do but at the same time I’m at Arsenal, I love Arsenal.”
