Two women had to be pulled from the top of their car by a water main that burst Wednesday morning in Hollywood Hills.
It was reported at 2:30 a.m. near Odin Street and Cahuenga Boulevard.
“It’s lifted up the sidewalk here on Cajuenga,”Carlos Calvillo of Los Angeles Fire Department was concerned about the water that continued flowing out of the ruptured main at 5 a.m.
One vehicle was left stuck after the break filled the street with water.
“When firefighters were on scene we had two females up on top of the roof the car,” Calvillo said.
As a bridge, rescue crew members used a ladder to help the women climb out of their car and reach safety.
Calvillo reported that both women were fine after the incident, and they were not transported to a hospital.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power arrived on the scene to find a solution.
Calvillo was worried about a potential sinkhole because of the water that was already in the street.
“If you get a large body of water like this … where is it going to release to? And if it does release, it could be very quick and sudden and it would basically suck everything down with it. So that’s an extreme safety hazard for us,”He said.
Officials still are trying to figure out what caused the break.
