Historic lamps taken off L.A. bridge

Nearly a century ago, hundreds of silent sentinels guarded the road between Silver Lake and Atwater Village.

The lampposts that lined the Glendale-Hyperion Viaduct were covered in the green patina from weathered bronze and protected the spans from the darkness.

In recent months, however, many of the lampposts were stolen. The wood was reportedly cut down and taken away by unidentified thieves, some as recently as this week.

According to Los Angeles Department of Public Works (LADPHW), 22 of the historic streetlights were missing. Additional 18 streetlights were taken down by city crews and stored.
