‘He was about to start his own family’Motorcyclist shot and killed in Mission Hills, California hit-and-run: Loving ones recall the victim

Freddy Perez’s love is evident by the monument that continues to grow every night at Rinaldi street in Mission Hills.

Family members say Perez, who was killed after he was hit by a truck while riding his motorcycle earlier this month, was set to make a major life decision — proposing to his long-time girlfriend.

Lizette Perez said that Tio Freddy’s sister Lizette loved her brother and that he was fondly associated with his family, his friends, and Andrea.

“He was set to go out to Mexico to visit her and his family and he was going to propose to his girlfriend,” Lizette Perez told KTLA.

Just five days before their planned engagement, their lives were forever altered.

“He was about to start his own family,” Perez said. “It’s been rough knowing he never got the chance.”

Perez was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in Mission Hills on July 16. As he was turning onto Rinaldi Street towards a gas station, Perez was struck by a black pickup truck. It is either 2017 GMC Denali, or Sierra HD.

Instead of stopping to help, the driver continued on the 405 Freeway southbound, leaving Freddy behind as well as parts of his truck. The truck’s GMC emblem was still at the scene when first responders arrived.

Freddy died on the spot from chest compressions. A nurse who saw the incident stopped by to help.

Police continue to search for the hit-and run driver. Lizette said that each day is more difficult as they wait for the guilty party.

Freddy’s closest friends have gathered under the overpass to pray for him. Every day, more candles are lit and more photos are taped to the wall. Lizette says that each day she hears her voice grow louder.

“Each day I get angier. The pain that I feel, the anger that is coming up, I’m going to use it. I’m going to be my brother’s voice,”Lizette stated. “This story isn’t going away.”

Family members say Andrea, Freddy’s girlfriend, was unaware of his plans to propose. When she heard that Freddy had passed away, she also learned about his intentions.

Now, the family is raising funds for a GoFundMe campaignTo help cover funeral expenses.

Anyone with information about the crash or the suspect’s vehicle is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
