Eurovision 2022 final LIVE. Sam Ryder restores UK pride in song contest after placing 2nd to Ukraine following public vote

UKRAINE’S Kalush Orchestra has won the Eurovision contest after a storming public vote saw them pip the UK’s Sam Ryder to glory.

After they had performed in the final of The Final, it was their turn. EurovisionSong Contest was a contest where bookmakers predicted that they would win.

The band’s frontman, Oleh Psiuk told the 7,500-strong audience: “I ask all of you, please help Ukraine, Mariupol. Help Avostal, right now,”

Many of them stood up to give the band a standing ovation before millions of people worldwide.

Meanwhile, the UK’s Eurovision hopeful Sam Ryder took to the stage with an upbeat performance of his uplifting pop song Space Man – and came second in the final vote.

Eurovision fans heaped praise on Sam for “achieving the impossible”It was a relief to be crowned runner-up in Turin.

This was Britain’s best result since 1998 when we also finished second. The contest was last won in 1997. We have been consistently at the bottom of this leaderboard since then.
