Equipment Stolen from Santa Monica Church – Los Angeles

Santa Monica police are on the lookout for the thief/thefters who took more than $100,000 of electrical equipment from St. Monica Catholic Church.

It is believed that the culprits were hiding in the church, waiting to strike at the right moment.

On Sunday, Monsignor Lloyd Torgerson shared his message of forgiveness with the congregation at St. Monica Catholic Church.

“We have to be able to forgive the people who did what they did to us Thursday night,”He said. “Yes, we do.”

A man was captured looking at the audio equipment from security cameras as he walked around the altar. At 9:30 PM, a man was seen walking in the same vicinity with a flashlight.

“I think they hid in a loft upstairs,”Torgerson claimed. “They probably waited until dark, and until most of our folks left around nine or 9:30 and then began to take things, they opened up these front doors and placed things into a car or truck.”

Santa Monica police claim that more than $100,000 in electrical equipment was taken — not to mention the damage to the church.

“I was shocked,”Maria Lingbanan, a parishioner at this church, said the following: “This has been my home for several, several years and I would never imagine that this would happen here. So, it hurt.”

Luckily, nobody was hurt.

“The good news is, no one was hurt,”Torgerson claimed. “They tried to get into the tabernacle with a wrench, but the door held, because it has a bolt, so there was no desecration of the eucharist. So we’re really grateful for that.”

As the investigation continues, detectives were present at the church Sunday morning to examine the security footage and try to piece together the events.

“We’ll carry on St. Monica,”Torgerson spoke during mass. “Won’t we? Yes, we will.”
