Dodgers unveil All-Star Game plans

From the stadium to the sea, the Los Angeles Dodgers unveiled plans Tuesday for this summer’s MLB All-Star Game, the franchise’s first time as host in 42 years.

Dodger Stadium was scheduled as the venue in 2020, but the COVID-19 epidemic shortened the schedule. The game was then canceled. Last year’s game was played in Denver.

Events will begin July 15th at the Santa Monica Pier, 18 miles west from Chavez Ravine, and LA Live in downtown Los Angeles’ stadium.

“No city and no city’s fans have supported their team like the Dodgers’ fans have,” team President Stan Kasten said. “They are hungry for this game and they are very excited that we are finally going to have it.”

July 19th is the All-Star Game.

“I hope I make it,”Clayton Kershaw, a Dodgers ace and eight-time All-Star, said the statement. “All the road teams that come in and get to play here, they say what a great place Dodger Stadium is. We’re excited to share it.”

To celebrate the 42th anniversary of their last hosting, the Dodgers will honor Jackie Robinson, who wore No. 42 when he broke baseball’s color barrier with the franchise 75 years ago. Rachel, his widow, will turn 100 on the All-Star Game.

“There’s a lot of opportunity that came from Jackie and all the other players that kind of came through,”Mookie Betts, Dodgers’ right fielder, stated.

For the first time, the Futures Game will be played and the celebrity softball match will take place on Saturday.

The Home Run Derby takes place on July 18. On the same day, workouts will be held.

Play Ball Park will be at LA Live and feature softball and baseball, music and a red-carpet for All-Star players and their families. Then they will be shuttled to Dodger Stadium. A few indoor events will take place at the nearby convention centre.

Sunday night will see the MLB draft at LA Live.

Fans can enjoy free events at the Santa Monica Pier or nearby beach from Friday to Sunday. These include instruction youth baseball and softball as well as a daily yoga class, a baseball-themed sandsculpture, and a daily yoga class. On the pier, there will be pitching and hitting cages. MLB will partner with Heal the Bay in staging a beach clean-up on July 16.

The Dodgers hosted their last All-Star Game in 1980. There were four choices: Steve Garvey (Davey Lopes), Bill Russell, Jerry Reuss and Bill Russell. The National League defeated the American League 4-2. Rick Honeycutt, the future Dodgers’ pitching coach, was an AL relief pitcher.

After moving from Brooklyn to the West Coast, the Dodgers hosted the first game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1959. Dodger Stadium, third-oldest in the majors, didn’t open until 1962.
