DJ Quik’s son charged in fatal Downey shooting

A man described as DJ Quik’s son has been charged with murder in a fatal Downey shooting, officials announced Tuesday.

David Blake Jr., 27, faces one count of murder and an allegation that he used a firearm, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, who identified him as David Marvin Blake.

After an altercation broke out at 13200 Block of Carfax Avenue, Julio Cardoza was fatally shot.

Blake then allegedly drove off from the scene.

Porter Ranch was the place where he was taken into custody.

Blake is the son and producer of Compton rapper DJ Quik. He helped popularize Gfunk, the sound of rap music. Los Angeles Times. The newspaper said that Galvan also acts as liaison to Isaac Galvan of Compton City Council.

He is currently being held on $2million bail and will be arraigned Tuesday.

“Senseless gun violence continues to plague our communities and it needs to stop before more lives are unnecessarily taken from us,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “Those who commit these types of crimes will be held accountable by my office.”

The Downey Police Department is still investigating the shooting.
