DJ Quik is the father of the man who was killed in Downey’s shooting accident

According to Downey Police Department, a 27 year-old man was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting in Downey. Media reports indicate that the alleged shooter may be the son of DJ Quik, a famous Compton musician.

According to police, Julio Cardoza (33 years old) was allegedly shot in the chest by David Blake Jr. shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday. A press release.

Cardoza received a single gunshot to the chest. Police said that he died later.

Police say that Blake was taken into custody in Porter Ranch at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Blake is the son rapper and producer DJ Quik. He helped popularize the G funk sound of hip-hop music according to The Los Angeles Times. The Times also stated that he acts as a liaison with Isaac Galvan, Compton City Councilman.

Blake is being held at the Men’s Central Jail in lieu of $2 million bail, and he is due to appear in Downey Municipal Court on Tuesday, according to jail records.
