Because falling for a hacker could result in a double whammy. Hackers will not only gain access to your Messenger but also your main Facebook account.

However, how do you know if you have been hit by cyberattackers?

These are signs to be aware of.

Archive chats

Once hackers have access to your account they are more likely to use it to make friends and get money off of you than you.

You can help them keep their tracks clean by messaging someone and then archiving the chat to make sure you don’t see it again on the main page.

Tap your profile picture in the upper left corner to check your Messenger archives

Then select Archive chatsThere are old messages hidden away in this list.

Look for contacts that you don’t already know.

Spam accounts may try to add your details all the time.

They shouldn’t be on your main Messenger page as long as they aren’t accepted.

You might also be a victim of a hacker if you recognize someone from the list.

You don’t have a mobile number

Facebook Messenger allows you to add your mobile number so that you can send messages through the app.

You can also login to your account and change your password. This is an excellent way for hackers to access your account.

To check which number are available in Messenger on a mobile phone, tap your profile photo and then go to Mobile number.

Choose Manage mobile numbersKeep an eye out for any that you don’t recognize.

If you find any, you can get rid of them.
