Bournemouth ace Steve Cook praised for ‘best defending ever’ after amazing double block

An expert double block from Steve Cook during Bournemouth’s Championship game with Fulham has sent social media to the raptures.

With the scores level and just before halftime, Aleksandar Mitrovic made an effort at goal inside the box – but Cook was there to put his body on the line and block the ball.

Even more audaciously, on the rebound, Fabio Carvalho went for the follow up – but the Cherries’ defender was on hand again, getting his body down low to prevent the west London side from opening the scoring.

Somehow Bournemouth survived the chance, but only thanks to the bravery of their captain.

Reaction on social media was that of disbelief. Many made calls for Cook to become the side’s new goalkeeper.

Steve Cook’s first block was tremendous enough

One said: “Steve Cook has just produced one of the best pieces of defending you’ll ever see for Bournemouth against Fulham.”

A reporter, Peter Rutzler, assessed: “My word two extraordinary blocks from Steve Cook. How has he managed that? Mitrovic is away inside-left, he feints to shoot, fires for goal but Cook blocks, and then somehow denies Carvalho on the follow up too.”

Another said: “Steve cook tonight been a beast tonight hardly kicked a ball this season and playing just always been there block after block reading the game.”

But then his second save was even better

A fourth simply said: “Should have been a keeper.”

Cook returned to action for the first time in over 200 days on November 27.

Assessing Cook’s performance, Parker said: “He did brilliant.

“At the end of the game, if there was ever a man that represented or showed what you need when you come right under the pump, it was Steve Cook.

Steve Cook has forged his way back into the sidd

“He’s every bit what you want on the pitch at that moment. He was fantastic.

“I’ve said it all along, it’s been difficult for Steve this year. I’ve found it difficult at times for him, because I’ve had to make difficult decisions.

“He’s not found himself involved or around it and that’s down to the personnel in front of him doing very, very well.

“But I’ve always been in communication saying look, you’ll get your chance here. I know if you keep yourself right, you’ll take it. I thought he was brilliant.
