At last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner President Joe Biden made jokes about Donald Trump’s former president and his opposition party. It was a great tradition that many have missed.
After a two-year absence due to Covid and Biden, the White House hosted the event again. This is the first time that a sitting president has attended since 2016. The White House is famous for mocking the POTUS.
Trump did not attend the event while he was president. Biden, who is 79, couldn’t resist the opportunity to joke with the former President.
“This is the first time a president has attended this dinner in six years,” Biden began. “It’s understandable, we had a horrible plague followed by two years of Covid.”
The crowd responded with laughter, applause, cautiousness, and a mix of both. “oohs”As Trump chirped at Biden.

Trump wasn’t the only target of Biden’s jokes. He also mocked the GOP and the press as well as himself.
“I’m not here to roast the GOP, that’s not really my style — and besides, there’s nothing I can say about the GOP that Kevin McCarthy hasn’t already put on tape.”Biden made the comment in reference the leaked audio recordings of the House Minority leader in which he had criticised Trump in the aftermath of January 6.
The joke led even further “oohs”The one about Trump refusing to attend the correspondents’ dinner was received more from the audience.
Biden made fun of the correspondents present and joked about it. “I’m really excited to be here tonight with the only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than I have.”
To level the playing field, President Biden joked about himself to make it more even.
“Republicans seem to support one fellow. Some guy named Brandon. He’s having a really good year. And I’m kind of happy for him,” Biden said.
“The very first president to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was Calvin Coolidge in 1924. I had just been elected to the United States Senate,”Biden made a joke about Biden’s age, which is often used in negative media against him.
The White House Correspondents Dinner, an annual event hosted annually by the White House Association of Journalists, is a gathering of journalists covering the White House and presidency.
The dinner provides scholarships for students enrolled in journalism programs.
Other than the quick standup routine of the President, Daily ShowTrevor Noah, the host of the show, was the main comedian. Kim Kardashian, Pete Davidson (Martha Stewart), Miranda Kerr, among others, were some of the stars.
