The Betty WhiteChallenge raised thousands of dollars for animals in dire need — probably more — and one dog is the beneficiary – a new lease of life.
We surveyed some of the shelters and animal rescue orgs that participated in Monday’s nationwide fundraising effort — and the haul from coast to coast was impressive. It’s even more rewarding to see the real-world effects this money has on their four-legged beneficiaries.
That’s perhaps most evident for Golden Retrievers In Need (aka G.R.I.N.) The president of Golden Retrievers In Need (aka G.R.I.N.) Lisa KineWe are told a lot that the dough they collected is going to Zilly’s rescue. Kine says they collected about $7,600 from about 200 people on the #BettyWhiteChallenge Day — much of which, we’re told, is going toward life-saving surgery Zilly needs to walk properly.
He has hip dysplasia and, while he had already had one procedure on his right side, he still needs to have the second one. He is fortunate that this money will cover both of his surgeries and should get him back to 100%.
There’s also places like K9s for Warriors, Puppy Jake and Days End Farm Horse Rescue … which raised $4,390, $1,190 and $4,200 for their institutions Monday, respectively. This money will be used to train service dogs for veterans, which can cost thousands per dog. It will also be used to help pay for the equipment, tools, and gear these animals might require along their journey.
One of the greatest winners of The #BettyWhiteChallengeIt seems that this is the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association. A representative for them tells us that they have raised over $70k Monday. They received 1,731 donations, from 49 states and 11 other countries.
All told, GLAZA says it’s banked a little over $94,000 in Betty White-inspired funds … which means the donations were coming early and often these past two weeks.
This is good news for animals!
