Arrest taken in Apple Valley hit and run crash that left two young children dead

California Highway Patrol investigators made an arrest in relation to the hit and run deaths of two children who were killed in Apple Valley earlier in the month.

CHP announced Tuesday that officers were arrested Edgar Ivan Galindo Diaz, Apple Valley, is being accused of his role in the fatal crash that resulted in the deaths of Jacob Martinez (12 years old) and Christina (1 year old). “Tina” Bird.

Martinez and Bird were riding their ATV in Apple Valley when they were struck from behind by a utility vehicle (UTV). The UTV fled the scene.

The children were found together. Jacob was pronounced dead at the scene and Christina died at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital after suffering several broken bones and a severed spinal cord.

Last Thursday, authorities announced that they had located a 2021 Polaris RZR was thought to be the vehicle that was involved in the crash that left the scene.

The vehicle was located at Galindo Diaz’s property in Apple Valley. Galindo Diaz was arrested and later surrendered to authorities.

CHP reported that he was booked on charges of felony hit & run.

Highway Patrol officials said the CHP would be working with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office to ensure the “appropriate applicable charges are filed”In the case
