Ant and Dec just called out Boris Johnson on I’m a Celebrity over Downing Street Christmas party allegations

Ant and Dec have got involved in the government’s Downing Street Christmas party scandal by calling out Boris Johnson live on television.

On last night’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, the presenting duo made reference to ongoing accusations that the government held a Christmas party last year, despite coronavirus restrictions specifically banning indoor gatherings.

Speaking about a change of leadership in the I’m a Celebrity camp, Ant started the dig at Johnson.

He said: “But, they weren’t celebrating. They didn’t have a party. They categorically deny any suggestions that they had a party.”

The crew behind the camera can be heard laughing as Ant went on to reference the cheese and wine that was joked about by former Downing Street Press Secretary Allegra Stratton in a leaked video.

He continued: “And this fictional party definitely didn’t involve cheese and wine, or a secret Santa.”

After letting the laughter die down, Dec chimed in while doing an ‘I’m watching you’ hand gesture.

Dec said: “Evening Prime Minister… for now.”

It’s fair to say they’ve captured the public mood well as many congratulated the pair on a funny gag and for holding the government to account.

One person wrote: “The leaders of the opposition.”

Another suggested: “Put these on PMQs tomorrow.”

Someone else commented: “You know things are bad when Ant and Dec are rinsing you on I’m A Celeb.”

One person added: “Could you imagine if it’s @antanddec that finally brings Boris down.”

On Tuesday, Downing Street again insisted there was no Christmas party and coronavirus rules had been followed at all times.

At PMQs on Wednesday, Boris Johnson apologised “unreservedly” and insisted that there was no party and no rules were broken. He said he was “furious” at the leaked clip and said there is to be an investigation, claiming disciplinary action may be taken.
