After their daughter realized that her Apple AirTag was tracking them for approximately four hours, a family with a dream trip to Walt Disney World became a nightmare.
Madison Gaston, 17 years old, received a notification from her iPhone that her movements had been monitored.
The tracker apparently recorded everything she did in the park between 7.09 and 11.33pm. She even parked her car at the end.
They searched tirelessly for the device but couldn’t find it. They believe it was lost in panic.
“We were terrified, we were confused, hurt and scared,” mother Jennifer Gaston from Tennessee told Fox 35 Orlando.
“She [Madison]Literally, it followed us all the way from the tram back to our vehicle.
“It showed the first destination where it was detected with her, then it basically draws a line and makes the connections of the points where she had been.”
Apple AirTags were created to make it easy for people to find keys and other items. However, the gadget has faced controversy since its launch a year ago.
Many reports have surfaced about thieves and people being stalked, using stolen cars to track high-end vehicles.
Tech giant Google was forced to implement several safety updates.
Apple recently introduced a louder warning sound when one is detected close to you.
Madison and Jennifer locked themselves in their car after they couldn’t locate the device. They quickly drove off.
However, the teenager looked at her phone to check where the AirTag was. She found it still in the parking lot.
“As she was refreshing it, it showed the AirTag was still in our parking spot so somehow when we were frantically shaking out clothes and dumping everything out of our bags it fell out,”Jennifer added.
The police were notified, but the AirTag was not sufficient evidence to record the violation as a criminal offense.
