Alfred Molina: The Character No One Forgets

The “Law & Order: SVU” half of the crossover, detectives suspect the coddled, socially awkward, and obsessive-compulsive Gabriel Duvall (Molina) of being a serial rapist who terrorizes women, and then — prompted by a twisted understanding of social expectations — leaves them with a wad of cash. However, his overprotective mother is not interested in seeing her son go into prison. She calls on Cooper’s slick and schmoozy Whitaker to ensure he doesn’t. Unfortunately, after being attacked by a relative to one of the victims (Diane Neal), ADA Casey Novak, (Diane Neal), is removed from the case and the episode ends before Gabriel is brought to justice.

In the “Law & Order: Trial by Jury” half of the crossover, Bebe Neuwirth’s ADA Tracey Kibre ends up with the case, and the story picks up where it left off. Kibre teams up with Christopher Meloni and Christopher Stabler, detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) in an effort to convict Gabriel. However, it’s a difficult battle, despite all the evidence against him. Whitaker will do anything to get his client out of trouble, not only because Eleanor can pull strings and intimidate witnesses. But justice prevails and Gabriel is sentenced. Molina’s story is an emotional rollercoaster ride that will be remembered for a good portion of the story. “Trial by Jury,”After just one season, the show was cancelled.
