After fatal collision, a portion of the southbound 405 was closed

After a fatal collision, nearly all lanes on the southbound 405 Freeway were shut down Monday night.

The accident occurred at 10:45 p.m., on the southbound side.

Numerous vehicles were involved in the accident, which led to the issuing a SigAlert. Traffic slowed to a crawl and almost all lanes were stopped.

Officials from California Highway Patrol told KTLA that all lanes except one on the southbound I-405 were shut down due to the fatal collision investigation.

The closure caused drivers to be diverted from the freeway onto Santa Monica Boulevard.

Although at least one person was reported to have been killed, the circumstances surrounding their death are not clear.
